Challenge Coins are small coins or medallions featuring an organization's insignia or emblem, carried by its members. Traditionally, they serve to affirm membership when challenged and to bolster morale. Historically, these coins have been awarded by unit commanders to recognize outstanding achievements by individual members.
On September 1997, the Army unit I was with was inactivated. For the closing ceremony, I designed a coin that was presented to every Soldier in the unit. At the time my tools were Corel Draw suite.
While employed as an Army Civilian, our Commander was ready to push his design of the Battalion logo to the Soldiers. I took action and recreated it with a professional look. The design was laterally moved to the new Battalion coin.
I was tasked by the Battalion Commander to design a coin for his battalion. The design elements incorporated the St. Louis Gateway Arch and the city's skyline.
With my continued employment with Army Recruiting Battalion, the Alaska Recruiting Company Commander commission me to come up with a company coin based on the sketches provided.
The Army Reserve Commander for 55th Sustainment Brigade required a new coin. Incorporating their unit patch and unit insignia and a pentagon shape at the bottom. The pentagon-shape symbolizes the birth of the unit during the Global War on Terrorism and the unit's location not far from the Pentagon.
Being commissioned by City of Redmond, Public Works Department to create a thank you card and anniversary cards. This presents an exciting opportunity to blend creativity with sentiment. The thank you card should convey heartfelt appreciation, often incorporating a clean, elegant design that highlights the message of gratitude.
